In this clip, historian Leslie Harris (Northwestern University) explains how American colleges and universities of all sorts—from public flagships to small private institutions—can contribute to public understandings of diversity. Harris is Professor of History and African American Studies at Northwestern University and co-editor of “Slavery and the University: Histories and Legacies” (University of Georgia Press, 2019). This conversation was recorded in April 2021 as part of CIC’s “Legacies of American Slavery: Reckoning with the Past” initiative.
