Summer 2023 Programs for Faculty and Staff from CIC Colleges (and Community Partners!)

Eligibility for these programs is limited to institutional members of the Council of Independent Colleges.

Participants in the 2022 Faculty Seminar on a tour of Yale University’s magnificent Beinecke Library

Both programs will meet in New Haven, Connecticut, with most sessions on the Yale University campus and lodging provided at a nearby hotel. CIC member institutions may nominate a faculty member or team for one program. Participants will be selected through a competitive process. There will be no cost to participants and travel subsidies will be provided.

Faculty Seminar: June 18–22, 2023

Application Deadline: March 15, 2023

Designed for individual faculty members from CIC member institutions who want to enhance their research and teaching about the multiple legacies of American slavery.

Public History Institute: July 30–August 4, 2023

Application Deadline: April 7, 2023

Designed for 3-person teams: two faculty and/or staff members from a CIC member institution plus one representative from a community-based organization. The focus will be on the public memory and interpretation of slavery, explored through seminars, site visits, and practical design workshops for public-facing activities.
