Changing Institutional Narratives about Slavery at Colleges and Universities

Historian Leslie Harris (Northwestern University) discusses how colleges and universities can address the “trials and errors” of slavery and race in their own histories by engaging in meaningful dialogues with both campus constituents and members of the community. Harris is in conversation with David Blight, director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University’s MacMillan Center. This conversation was recorded in April 2021 as part of CIC’s “Legacies of American Slavery: Reckoning with the Past” initiative.
