Historian Leslie Harris (Northwestern University) addresses the challenge of confronting complex, painful histories in public settings, drawing upon her experiences with public programs at the New-York Historical Society and other sites. Harris is in conversation with David Blight, director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University’s MacMillan Center. This conversation was recorded in April 2021 as part of CIC’s “Legacies of American Slavery: Reckoning with the Past” initiative.
